As event organiser he ran the highly successful Norwegian Grand Prix in Arendal - heralded as one of the sport’s flagship events - for three years as well as undertaking the role of team manager for Welmax Offshore Racing.

The primary responsibilities of Class 1’s newly appointed director will be to oversee venue organisation and management, race circuit preparation and the coordination of on-water safety operations. 'In some ways this is a daunting position, one that I fully respect and one that I am motivated to undertake and am very much looking forward to,' he said. 'I have been involved in all aspects of the sport for many years and from both sides of the fence, so I have a very good understanding of the different needs, requirements and issues faced by all of the parties involved. What is important is to have the confidence of the teams and to ensure that the lines of communications are clear.'

Per Carsten’s first role will be to help guide the sport into an exciting new chapter when the Championship heads to Libreville, Gabon in July for an historic first event on the African continent, before getting to grips with the remainder of the 2012 calendar which includes a possible event in Norway and Grands Prix in Siracusa and Cernobbio in Italy in September and in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in December.
